About the Event
thank you for your willingness to help us with our initiative. As you may have heard, the Philippines was devastated again on November 1st by a Super Typhoon Goni (local name Rolly) this year 2020. It was indeed a scary halloween for everyone, even for us in Metro Manila, as we've experienced strong winds and heavy rains, while worrying about our families living in the province.
Albay is one of the hardest hit provinces by Goni. Power lines are down, rice fields are flooded, houses and other infrastructures are buried and destroyed, and many families are left without shelter and access to other basic necessities.
According to the partial damage report by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office of Albay, a total of 20,490 houses were partially damaged while a total of 4,736 were totally damaged.
In line with this, my varsitarian organization, UP Albayanos, has initiated a donation drive called Alalay Albay Project (Alalay means to help or to support), with the aim to provide assistance to severely affected families in the province. UP Albayanos is a varsitarian, non-profit, student organization established in the University of Philippines - Los Baños. The organization's goals are to promote academic excellence, social proficiency and service to people of Albay, especially to the less fortunate. Now more than ever, Albay needs our help.
As of today, we had our first activity providing 208 food packs, 110 packs of candies and biscuits for kids, and tray of eggs to the community of farmers located in one of the far flung communities in the town of Polangui, Albay.
We promise to keep you updated on the progress of our activities. You may also follow our official facebook page for more information and do not hesitate to send us a message in this account or an email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any inquiries.
